If you had the privilege of knowing the late Dr. Alice Green, you can’t help but wonder what she would say about the state of our nation today. Her sudden passing last August left a profound void for those who looked to her for a powerful voice, an uplifting message, and a deep sense of history.
A devoted friend and supporter of the NYS Writers Institute, Alice dedicated her life to the fight for justice, equality, and civil rights. On January 25, 2022, at Page Hall on the Downtown UAlbany Campus, she reflected on her lifelong activism, read from her memoir, We Who Believe in Freedom: Activism and the Struggle for Social Justice, and shared compelling insights on race, policy, and the impact of community action.
In a conversation with NYS Writers Institute Opalka Endowed Director Paul Grondahl, Alice offered a deeply personal look at her journey and the challenges and triumphs of advocacy.
As we remember Dr. Alice Green during Black History Month, this 2022 discussion serves as a tribute to her unwavering commitment to justice. Through her words, her legacy continues to inspire and guide future generations.
Hundreds have viewed the recording of that event. Here you can watch the video or listen to a podcast, produced by NYS Writers Institute intern Kayla Fennell.
